Too many pain pills in the medicine cabinet?
The rate of prescription pain medication addition and death has been steadily increasing in the United States, due largely to the availability and access to narcotic pain medications. While policy initiatives aim to limit access to these medications, a major point of access for adolescents is pills in the home, leftover from a prior prescription.
What do parents do with their child’s leftover pain medication? Are their child’s doctors discussing what to do with leftover medication? We asked parents of children 5-17 years old about their experiences with pain medication prescriptions for their children. The results of this new National Poll on Children’s Health will be released next week. Be sure to sign up for our email list so you don’t miss it.
